King – Born 2007, Standardbred gelding
King arrived at Easy Street June 2009. He was going to be a harness racer until he had an accident and fractured a vertebrae. He is not in pain, but the injury left him unstable in his hindquarters when he turns his head too fast and too sharp.
Update 2011: King has grown through his injury very well and it is hard to detect anymore. Only when he is at a hard run and stops quickly does he gather his feet a little more than any other horse.
King would be good for level trail riding, with no steep downhills, and is good at a walk/trot and possible slow canter, but should never be ridden in gaming or competitions where fast speeds and a quick stop may be necessary. He’s never fallen but it is not worth the risk. He is a beautiful horse and is finally coming out of his shyness. He needs that one person that will always be there for him. He is a dedicated horse and will give his heart. King stands about 16 hands and needs training. He has shyness issues so needs a person dedicated to him and will give him a lot of consistent attention. He gets along well with other others.

Summer 2010: King was a hero this summer when he came back to rescue a volunteer from a coyote. The volunteer was working in the barn, when suddenly Lilly came running in from pasture whinnying. Jen grabbed a halter and lead rope and went to check it out. She found the horses in close and wasn’t sure what was wrong, when the horses turned and started running. She heard the growling and turned to run also. Unfortunately, she tripped and fell. Before she knew it, King had returned to her and was prancing around her in a tight protective circle. Tanka also returned and went after the coyotes (there were 2), kicking one and chasing them away. King never left Jen’s side. We are so proud of our heroes.
